Our Ethiopian Adoption Program 

Fields of Promise has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Justice in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, requesting permission to place children from Ethiopia with families in the U.S.  As of December 4, 2007, we were informed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has put an indefinite hold on new agencies submitting their applicaitons for registration.  Fortunately, we have already established an agreement with another U.S. agency that is licensed in Ethiopia to place children, so that we can still assist families who want to adopt some of our waiting children while our registration is pending.   We are not sure how long this registration moratorium will last, but we trust that if God wants Fields of Promise to function as an independent placing agency in Ethiopia, He wil bring it to pass in the future.

 

Even though we are partnering with another licensed agency, we are maintaining our own care home in Mekelle, Ethiopia, which is being implemented by a locally registered NGO.  When children are received into care, we begin to recruit adoptive families for these children.  Because of our work with the Mekelle Govt. Boarding School for the Blind, we also have information on blind children who are in need of permanent families.  Our passion as an agency is to find families for the waiting children of Ethiopia, rather than to find children for U.S. families.  We believe very strongly that God is the one who puts families together, and we are thrilled to be able to watch this happen as we share information about the children of Ethiopia who deserve a permanent family.  As of November of 2007, we are recruiting families for several sibling pairs and single children ranging in age from 1 to 14.  If God has placed this burden for the children of Ethiopia on your heart, and you desire more information, please send an email to adopt@fieldsofpromise.org and we will be happy to share more specifics about our waiting children.   If you want to view our password protected waiting child photolisting, please send an email to adopt@fieldsofpromise.org and provide your name and phone number and your reason for wanting to view the photos (where you are in the adoption process).  Thanks!

 

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?  Fields of Promise is looking for Christian families who desire to work with a small agency and who desire to make a difference in the life of a child.  Some of the adoption criteria is set by the Ethiopian Government, such as:

  • Must be at least age 25
  • Single women or those married at least 2 years may apply
  • Family income at least 125% above poverty level
  • Approved by Dept. of Homeland Security for immigration purposes for foreign adoption
  • Recommended age limit of 55 years, with no more than 40 year gap between parent and age of child (flexible, especially with older children and sibling groups) 

We don't have other requirements regarding adopting unrelated children or adopting out of birth order, because our agency philosophy is that only you and the Lord and your social worker can decide what "fit" is best for your family.  We would be happy to discuss our program with you in detail, and provide a copy of our fees, which are among the lowest of the approximately 25 agencies facilitating Ethiopian adoptions.  Please send an email to adopt@fieldsofpromise.org with your specific questions.
