House of Promise #4 - Group Home Care for Adolescent Boys
As boys become older, it is more difficult to find families, grandparents or neighbors who are able to provide care for them. Often there is an expectation that at age 14, they are ready to live on their own. But boys in the ORE project have been attending school and many desire to finish their education and have the opportunity for university education or vocational training. Also, we believe that many of these boys still need a "mother" or a father figure in their lives for mentoring and spiritual input.
In early November, 2008 we moved forward by faith to rent a fourth compound for 12 boys who are in need of group home care. ORE already had these young men identified, and some had been living together in a temporary home for the past several years. This home will be managed by an older gentleman who has served in the local church in children's ministry and as the social worker for ORE for several years. He will help these young men reach their full potential. Look for these young men to be the next leaders in Tigray and in Ethiopia!
