OUR FIRST HOUSE OF PROMISE

In June of 2007, Fields of Promise partnered with ORE to establish the first small home which would provide housing for up to 15 children ages newborn to 15.  The home has 6 bedrooms, a kitchen, a family room, and 3 bathrooms.  An initial team from GEPC in Lawrence, KS brought over much-needed supplies, clothing, medicines, and toys and books.  Here is a photo of our first little resident, an HIV positive toddler who is now living in the US with her forever family!

Today, the home is staffed with 3 wonderful housemothers who are well-trained and really love the kids in their care.  The home is managed locally by ORE and funded by FOP.  This includes staff salaries, rent, and child care costs for the children who grow here.  During our 2-3 visits per year, we take time to encourage the staff, hear their concerns, offer training input as requested, and assess other needs that we might be able to meet.  In addition, we keep records on the children in care and have photos and video available so that many of them might be matched with a forever family in the U.S. through WACAP, a licensed Ethiopian agency.   Check out our  Waiting Children page to view these waiting children ages 5 and up as well as some HIV positive children, sibling groups and blind children in need of a family. 

We get regular updates on the  children who are growing in the home.  Some of these children will grow here into adulthood, and others may be matched with adoptive families in the U.S.  They are attending school, participating in the recreation and tutoring programs offered by ORE as well as receiving daily spiritual input.  It is such a joy to see them when we visit!

The home has a very intimate feeling, with all of the children functioning like brothers and sisters and learning to genuninely care about one another.  Children who were once without a family are now part of the family of God, being loved by caring adults.
